The Ballet is something I’ve always had respect for, although I am not a big fan of it. It’s usually misunderstood just like Professional Wrestling. What this film does is show how tough it is for ballerinas and shows the side of the industry that no one sees. You could say the director did what he did for The Wrestler for this film. Well, with a lot of added drama and crazy stuff going on. However I feel the film’s story wasn’t very strong. That and a few horror film elements that didn’t need to be there were the film’s bad points. Performances that stood out were by Vincent Cassel and Natalie Portman (girl knows how to dance… even though she probably had doubles). Mila Kunis did her job of looking hot, prefer Natalie but you know. I liked the style of the film, but it wasn’t anything special.
Overall I think it was an interesting film and worth a watch, even if you are like me and hate seeing toe/feet torture.
My rating: 6/10
